The Autodidact
I offloaded the business in 2021 and almost immediately started working on my cars myself.
After a rather disastrous road trip driving my racecar to Simola, it was decided I would build my own RaceVan. Mine had been sold with the business.
Best therapy ever.
I learned so much about myself during this period. My confidence growing in leaps and bounds on every level. Pushing my creative boundaries. Surprising myself with my own capabilities.
I always regarded myself as a good problem solver. Someone who never shied away from a challenge and would persist long after other sane people would have given up. Something I believe made me a good debugging programmer — figuring out and fixing other people’s code rather than mundane day to day development.
I learned I was an autodidact. I thrived under challenging learning conditions.
Never stop learning.
Two specialists later, I have worked through more childhood trauma and learned that I am insulin resistant, complicated by fatty liver damage. Changed my lifestyle completely while treating both conditions.
My body still shuts down every day. A soft reboot more than a hard shutdown. My headaches and brain fog have improved massively.
As much as I feel ready for reintegration into society, it doesn’t take much to trigger my very raw, damaged nervous system. I am far more discerning with my energy. I do my best to focus on things that really matter and avoid placing myself under pressure.
It is important to me to lift the energy in a room rather than be the dark energy I was before. Not to take myself too seriously. To entertain people with my anecdotes. To never publicly criticise anyone. Ever.
OneTrackMind is the diary of the person described above.
Recovering from a life he didn’t know better — but now he does.
An ongoing learning and sharing of coping mechanisms, to inspire others to be better. Every day.
